 VENISON BRAT GYROS

By Pat Kolbe, BUCK FEVER OUTDOORS

A good Gyro brings me back to some college days, when a late night out with the boys sometimes included a trip to a local gyro joint! Well a few years ago, upon dabbling with different flavors of venison brats - I stumbled upon the Greek/Gyro flavor — and it makes the perfect flavor punch to create your own homemade gyros using a venison brat! Grill or cook the brats as you wish, then slice them thin to get individual pieces of meat that make the foundation for your gyro! Add in all the other typical gyro ingredients and I guarantee you’ll be setting aside a portion of your venison to be made into a Gyro flavor after each upcoming season!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package of Greek/Gyro flavored venison brats , cooked and sliced thin

  • 1 package of Greek Style Pita Bread

  • 1 cup of chopped tomatoes

  • 1 cup of chopped cucumbers

  • 1 cup of chopped onions

  • 1 cup of Feta cheese

  • Cucumber Ranch Dressing or Tzatziki Sauce

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Cook or grill your Venison Gyro brats. Slice brats into individual pieces.

  • Warm your Pita bread by throwing them on a pan for 2-4 minutes on medium heat.

  • Assemble your ingredients on the Pita bread

    • Venison Gyro Brat meat first

    • Add tomatoes, cucumbers, onion and feta cheese.

    • Top with generous amount of Cucumber Ranch Dressing or Tzatziki Sauce

VARIATIONS:

  • I like to accompany Venison Gyros with a Greek-style salad. Take your favorite lettuce/green combination and add some pickled Greek-flavored vegetables like red peppers, black and green olives, and pepperoncini. Top with the same Cucumber Ranch Dressing used for the Gyros!
